Carlos V Spanish Writing Contest:

'The Generation of '27'

A writing contest for students of Spanish to rediscover the creativity of the Generation of '27 and inspire a new generation of literary voices.

Spanish Writing Contest: The Generation of '27

This edition of the 2nd Carlos V Spanish Writing Contest stems from the belief that the Generation of ’27 is not just another textbook chapter, but a living conversation—one that still has a great deal to say to us today.

Known as the Generation of ’27, these young poets came together in 1927 to pay tribute to the Baroque poet Luis de Góngora. In doing so, they championed the richness of Spain’s literary heritage while pioneering new forms of expression inspired by modern European art.

In a world saturated with fleeting images and constant rush, the poetry of Lorca, Alberti, Salinas, and Aleixandre invites us to pause, listen to the rhythm of words, and ask ourselves what it means to create beauty in troubled times.

Carlos V Education is hosting this special edition to revisit that unique moment where tradition and the avant-garde converged. It is a chance to discover one of the most brilliant and groundbreaking groups in Spanish literary history—a compelling reminder of how creativity can thrive even in times of profound change.

The contest is open to students of Spanish aged 12 to 19, divided into two categories:
